Looking for Speaker Stands

Looking for Speaker Stands

We bought some bookshelf speakers to go with our new Sony amplifier. When they arrived I placed them on the edges of our TV stand, then went on the hunt for proper speaker stands.

I was looking for sturdy and economical speaker stands that could handle heavier speakers. I started with PERLESMITH Height Adjustable Speaker Stands, but ended up with PERLESMITH Universal 26 Inch Floor Speaker Stands. I'll give my thoughts about each of them.

PERLESMITH Height Adjustable Speaker Stands

I initially bought these because they are height adjustable, and the top plates can be screw tightened to secure the speakers. What I found out was that the top plates were somewhat flimsy. They could be tilted, and it was difficult to adjust them to keep the speakers level. Overall these stands were not as stable as I would like.

  • easy to adjust height
  • top plate can be tilted, but hard to level properly
  • can be screw tightened to secure speakers, but cumbersome to do so
  • supports up to 11 lb per speaker
  • overall not as stable as I would like
  • you can purchase them on Amazon for around $40

PERLESMITH Universal 26 Inch Floor Speaker Stands

I bought these next. They are not height adjustable, and the top plates cannot be tilted. However, they feel more robust and stable. There is no locking mechanism to secure speakers in place, but I don't find them necessary. I realize that if your speaker stand falls, your speaker will fall with it whether it's locked into place or not.

The top plates are quite wide (7.8"x7.8"), providing better support for larger speakers. The bottom plates are close to 12"x12", providing overall stability.

I like these stands a bit. They are sturdy and minimalistic looking, and suitable for both our living room and bedroom.

  • cannot adjust height or tilt
  • top plates have resistive padding that hold speakers in place, but do not securely lock onto speakers
  • sturdy and stable
  • glass top plate looks elegant
  • supports up to 22 lb per speaker
  • overall minimalistic looking and suitable for most settings
  • you can purchase them on Amazon for around $60

Both stands have hollow insides that allow better cable management.
